Craig Sandle – Restaurant Chef of the Year 2008
Craig Sandle, Head Chef at The Balmoral’s Michelin-starred number one restaurant, won ‘Restaurant Chef of the Year 2008’ at the Craft Guild of Chefs Award which took place at the Royal Courts of Justice in London 16 June, for his unwavering commitment to the continued success of Michelin-starred number one restaurant.
Craig Sandle joined The Balmoral as Chef de Partie in 2003, quickly progressing to the role of number one’s Sous Chef. Since then he has assisted in taking the restaurant from strength to strength and amassed a superb collection of prestigious accolades. In recognition of these achievements he was promoted to the position of Head Chef in August 2006. Working with Executive Chef Jeff Bland, Craig Sandle played a big part in number one attaining a third AA rosette in 2006, while maintaining its Michelin star this year. Craig Sandle also won an Acorn Award in 2005 and was awarded for Best Starter at the Craft Guild’s Knorr National Chef of the Year 2006.
Craig sandle said: “I am delighted to be recognised as Restaurant Chef of the Year 2008 and look forward to taking part in the continued success of number one.”
A total of 39 finalists attended Craft Guild of Chefs Awards at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, in a bid to pick up one of 14 awards.
Nick Vadis, chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said finding the right winners had become increasingly difficult each year since the Award’s inception 15 years ago – “The standard and quality of nominees climbs to ever increasing heights.” he said. “This year’s champions are truly shining examples of masters of their trade and will ensure the UK is at the forefront of global culinary craftsmanship.”
