The number one Scottish Thistle Award
The Scottish Thistle Awards, which are organised by VisitScotland, recognise and celebrate excellence and quality in Scotland’s tourism industry, and are widely recognised as one of the top accolades that a tourism business can receive.
The Balmoral was also a finalist within the Skills for Success category, in which it was highly commended for recognising effective collaboration, leadership and networking within an organisation.
Within the Flavour of Scotland category, entries were invited from all sectors of the hospitality industry that have used quality produce to drive their business forward. The rigorous judging process involved representatives from VisitScotland and The Caterer Group, the sponsor of the category. They looked for evidence of strong links with local suppliers, as well as the highest standards of Scottish cuisine, presented within a welcoming and customer-friendly environment.
As ever, there was an outstanding field of nominees, but it was number one’s dedication to immaculate service and outstanding cuisine that gave the culinary landmark its winning edge. Jeff Bland, The Balmoral’s Michelin-starred Chef, who collected the award, was also applauded for his exquisite craftsmanship and subtle and innovative menus.
