The Balmoral Goes Tea Potty for Save the Children
Did you ever think something as simple as your daily cuppa could help save a child’s life?
The Balmoral is going Tea-Potty for Save the Children week (27th April – 3rd May) by hosting the world’s most important tea party. All next week The Balmoral’s Palm Court will donate £1.00 from every one of their world-famous Afternoon Teas sold to the charity.
To raise further awareness The Balmoral’s Pastry Chef has created a special Afternoon Tea for the week, including children’s favourite traditional fairy cakes. Guests to Palm Court next week will enjoy guilt – free indulgence as they choose from one of 20 types of tea under the sparkling glass dome and Venetian chandelier as a harpist plays in the background.
The funds raised will go towards Save the Children’s largest ever campaign to show how simple it is to save a child’s life.
10 million children die before their fifth birthday every year. That’s as many as one child per three seconds. In the worst countries, like Sierra Leone in Africa, the rates of survival are so drastically low that one in four children do not make the age of five.
The shocking reality behind these figures is that most of these children are dying of causes that are preventable by staggeringly simple treatments. Two of the three main child killers are malaria and diarrhoea, when we know that rehydration salts and mosquito nets – items that cost just a few pounds – would keep these children alive.
Michael Barton, Manager of Palm Court said: “Save the Children’s work has really inspired us to get involved. Vaccinations, antibiotics and mosquito nets are all simple things that can keep a child alive. And it’s simple to raise the money needed to buy those life saving items. Palm Court is the perfect place to have fun and raise money at the same time by enjoying Afternoon Tea tea with friends and family!”
